Colombia is a country of contrasts and beauty. During a recent journey with my husband, I visited Bogota, Medellin, the Coffee Triangle, and Cartagena. It was an exciting adventure that allowed me to witness breathtaking landscapes, experience lively city streets, and learn about the history of its people.
Cartagena's cobblestone streets and colonial architecture offered a step back in time. Spending hours wandering the streets, taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city was tiring, and fun. In the afternoons we saw locals dancing and heard the music of drums reflecting the Caribbean influence of the people in that part of the country.
The historical segment of our trip included both Bogotá and MedellÃn, where I was deeply moved by the warmth and hospitality of the locals. Exploring both the Botero Museum and the Gold Museum was an enlightening experience. Delving into the rich history of the region completed the experience. Side trips brought us to a butterfly museum and time touring local markets. At the market I tasted fruits I'd never seen before.
Visiting small towns is my favorite way to travel. Spending time in less crowded places allows me to engage with local artisans. Browsing through their creations, hearing stories, and seeing their craft in action makes great memories and adds to the charm. Another favorite day trip brought us to see the tall Wax Palm trees of the Valle de Cocora and even a few wild horses.
